“Federal Workers’ Compensation Made Easy” by Lenin V. Perez is an excellent resource for the injured federal worker who needs to file a federal workers compensation claim, and for his or her workers comp representative.

The book covers the benefits, rights and responsibilities of the federal employee who is injured on the job, who has suffered a work-related illness, or who has a pre-existing injury which is aggravated by the duties of the job. The book includes extensive workers comp facts, history and explanations. It provides helpful information such as which OWCP form to use (the correct form is a must for claim acceptance and claim success); why the injured worker must select a doctor of his/her own choice and how to do that; and how to receive reimbursement for travel expenses related to medical treatments caused by the workplace injury, illness, or aggravation of the pre-existing condition.

The book also explains how to calculate and apply for OWCP “Schedule Awards” once the injured worker has reached Maximum Medical Improvement (MMI). The schedule awards are for permanent total or partial loss of use of body parts and/or body functions. They are based on the percentage of loss or disability related to the injury or illness, and other important factors which are detailed in the book. The amount of these awards can be quite substantial so it is very helpful to the sick or injured federal employee to have this handy guide so that the injured worker does not miss out on getting all the benefits he/she is entitled to under the Federal Employees’ Compensation Act (FECA).

The 21 Case History examples (based on actual successful federal workers compensation claims) provide an excellent tool for the injured employee to learn from because they detail so many different types of federal agency workplace injuries, illness, and federal agency situations. The injured worker or representative reading these examples is sure to find a case history that resembles his/her situation, which will help the claimant document and achieve his/her own successful workers comp claim.

Mr. Perez’s first book, “Federal Workers’ Compensation Made Easy” is a wealth of knowledge compiled from Mr. Perez’s 40 years working Federal Workers’ Compensation claims for injured federal workers. In this book he explains the whole Federal Workers’ Compensation process from start to finish.  He lifts the veil of the process and demonstrates that with good advice and the knowledge which this book contains you too can navigate the sometimes cavernous process. For the injured federal worker, representative, or anyone involved in the Federal Workers’ Compensation process, this book is indispensible.
